Bush's terrible budget for 2008 is covered, along with Hillary Clinton, AIPAC speech, John Edwards, and our bizarre policy towards Iran, where our chief diplomat, Condi Rice, says she just ain't talkin.  At least Lt. Watada was let off the hook by a technicality. Otherwise, Bush World strikes again.

The F word is Fascism and the accusation has gone mainstream. Prez Bush, his many lawyers, and Neocon supporters clearly see American rights as optional and dissent as un-American. Are we headed toward fascism and martial law?

The cause was 9/11, from which all horrors of war in recent history emanated.  About 3,000 people died that day; now we are faced with the atrocities of over a half a million people dead in George BUsh's wars.
The State of the Union is the sad effect, which is essentially:  let's experiment with peoples' lives. The President asked the country for a chance to let his new plan, which is not a new plan at all, to work.
It's an old plan, adding more troops. It's been tried before and it has  failed.

Citizen Against Lies #92 -- Old Media, Bold Media, Reform!

This focuses on the media changes in the world, much of it depending on the internet, involving blogging, podcasting and streaming radio to name a few.  The Conference for Media Reform in Memphis was well-attended last weekend because people all over the country are finally realizing the importance of tearing ourselves from the deathgrip of big corporate media.  We need to go back to the days of fair media, and that means reversing some of the problems created within the FCC by the Bush administration, and that means reversing some deregulation which has led to this very unfair, conservative-biased media we currently have. Our mainstream media in the U.S. is so pathetic that according to Bernie Sanders, those congressmen against the Iraq war were holding press conferences before the war started that the press refused to cover!

Citizen Against Lies #91 -- We've Had Enough Occupation!

The supposed leader of the semi-free world wants to try another influx of troops into Iraq , by calling it  a "surge" and pretending it's a new idea by filing it under a pretty new name:  A New Way Forward. What a joke!  It's the same old thing. More soldiers, more killing, more death. The only thing different about this attempt is that the Democrats are in control in Congress.  Will they act forcefully or surrender to their political fears?  There are a number of things the Democrats can do this time around:   They can impeach George Bush.  That would take too much time (but should eventually be done.)  They can refuse to fund the escalation, and stop funding the war. They are reluctant to do that. So they may instead pass non-binding resolutions that  simply tell Bush they don't approve.  If they wimp out, we have to let them know we don't approve.

It's big, it's beautiful, it's podcast 90. This is the last super-sized podcast from Citizen Against Lies, so enjoy. I'm downsizing after this one, so make it last.   Today I talk about the end of Gerald Ford, the end of Saddam Hussein, the beginning of the new Democratic Congress, and the accidental sexism of our political system and how Nancy Pelosi fits in to that. Some global warming talk, and then I talk to Aldous Tyler on the apparent determination of Clear Channel to turn existing Progressive talk radio stations into conservative talk radio stations. He tells us how YOU can help Ohio, currently facing a radio crisis.

Also included is another audio essay by Tom Chartier called Spot a Dictator, an audio essay by Kel called Debating Republicans, and a guest rant by ex-Marine Shawn Gillick.

Happy New Year! Welcome 2007, goodbye 2006. Two under reported news stories are discussed in this podcast and I have the first recording by Tom Chartier, called We the People - a cautious welcome and a warning to the new Democratic majority Congress. Tom is a columnist for LewRockwell.com and the atlanticfreepress.com, both progressive and very interesting sites. He'll be joining me with recordings of his writing in future podcasts. I also have a follow-up today on the December 15 & 16 Boston Tea Party Events with Jason King, one of the organizers of the events. My Good Cause highlight of the week is CODEPINK. http://www.codepink4peace.org/

Buy some of their Peace Panties and send extras to Laura Bush and Condi Rice!

Chavez wins, but he turns off the media, literally. He shuts down Telemundo because he doesn't like their coverage. Is this a bad sign of things to come?

This is the enhanced mpegversion of my interview with Dave Rabbit, part 2 with the same audio as the  mp3 version.  Dave Rabbit is the Vietnam war era's secret identity pirate radio broadcaster out of Saigon. In this episode, he talks freely about the war, his role in it, Radio First Termer Iraq, music, projects in the works and the Iraq war.  He also talks about his recent experience in Iraq, answers some questions from my fellow progressive podcasters, and reveals his favorite war movie!  After a few hours, I still don't know his true identity!  Make sure you listen to part 1 so you know what's going on in this one.

This is part 2 of an interview with Dave Rabbit, the Vietnam war's genuine secret pirate radio broadcaster out of Saigon.  He talks freely about the war, his role in it, Radio First Termer Iraq, music, projects in the works and the Iraq war. He also talks about his recent experience in Iraq, answers some questions from my fellow progressive podcasters, and reveals his favorite war movie!  It was a pleasure to talk to Dave Rabbit and after a few hours, I still don't know his true identity! Make sure you listen to part 1 so you know what's going on in this one. The back story is very interesting and it's also rather involved.   This is not just another interview. Dave Rabbit is a true icon and somewhat of a cult hero of free speech lovers everywhere.
This interview is uncensored and reflects the views of Dave Rabbit, not necessarily those of myself, and listener discretion is advised!

Part I of a special interview with Dave Rabbit (Listener discretion advised).

Dave Rabbit was the secret pirate radio broadcaster who broadcast an in your face radio show about sex, drugs and rock and roll, directly from Vietnam, without the approval of anyone, while he was an active duty soldier in January, 1971. I spoke with him on October 31 2006 for a late night conversation about war, politics, Vietnam, Iraq, radio, broadcasting, music and more.He told me also of his recent Radio First Termer trip to Iraq and broadcast from Baghdad.  If you are reading this you have the original mp3 version of this podcast. It will also be released as an enhanced podcast and I will have all the show notes and links on my website at http://www.citizenagainstlies.com    Part II will be released on November 21, 2006. The enhanced version of this podcast, with photos taken by Dave and of Dave Rabbit and friends in Vietnam and in Iraq, is at this link for direct download:

Citizen Against Lies #83 -- Election Relief! but Who is Robert Gates?

Average rating

!The Democrats Prevailed, the World is Saved!
Or so goes the theory. In fact, some of the newly elected Democrats are pretty conservative.  This podcast celebrates the new Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate anyway, including a few interesting listener voicemails, and ponders the resignation/firing of Donald Rumsfeld.  Democrats now have subpoena and oversight powers back. Our system of government appears to work after all.  I also call for the support for impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney as one of the obligations of the new Democratic Congress, and congratulates Howard Dean on a successful 50-state strategy that worked. Finally this podcast explores the question of who is Robert Gates, Donald Rumsfeld's potential successor in the Pentagon. Is Gates qualified  to be Secretary of Defense and will he be a good one if confirmed?

Now the self-torment by the Republicans begins. I hope they're enjoying it like we have for the last six years.

Billy Bob Neck interview! I had the opportunity to interview a well-known religious right-wing person, and it was something I could not resist. Since it's a relevant social topic especially given that we have an election coming up, I decided to put out this podcast before the election. It may even get you to vote, somehow, if you weren't going to otherwise. Is it an anti-religious podcast?

Citizen Against Lies #79 -- Interview with Director Jeff Stanzler

Interview: Sorry, Haters director Jeff Stanzler. This interview just would not fit in my regularly scheduled podcast! It's only somewhat political, but it does have that specter of 9/11 hanging over it. So by all means, do see this movie. Robin Wright Penn and Abdel Kachiche give award-worthy performances. The ending will leave your head spinning. Do people need the suffering of others to feel good about themselves? It might be a question more relevant today than ever. Sorry, Haters synopsis: quote: Psychological thriller with political and social undertones set in today's New York. It's a story of anger, revenge and retribution so timely it could be true. It beings when Ashade, a Muslim cab driver, picks up Phoebe, a well-heeled professional woman.-unquote. And things go uphill, then downhill, then uphill and then downhill and then ?
