I am so sick of the way advertisers can legally exploits any fear they wish to generate profit. Nothing new I know... It's the AOL adverts which have prompted me to write this, they make me want to throw the TV out of the window (not that I need any help with that). They make the internet seem like a dark sordid place where your personal information, your kids, your identity etc is constantly at risk. Of course there is a reality to this, but as long as you have a good firewall and virus checker you are pretty well protected. They imply that you need the ultimate protection to be truly safe, which is of course only having access to the content they want you to see. As can be seen in the previous posted link (alternet), they are part of a group of companies wanting the internet to be basically a constant commercial break. From this angle there is no need for personal freedom or anything that does not generate a profit.
